Be the Man

Growing from a young boy into a strong man takes some work. The key to this is good nutrition and physical health. Typically men need more calories, protein, carbohydrates, etc. when it comes to eating each day. In comparison to women, men are more likely to smoke, drink, make risky choices, and/or put off regular health checks. These things can lead to lifestyle diseases and some conditions that only men can get, like prostate cancer or low testosterone.

A healthy diet is the key to providing essential nutrients for your body that leads to good health. Mean should be taking in carbohydrates, fat, protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and water each and every day. Men tend to be missing a few things from their diet but luckily there are easy ways to take care of this problem. These things include

  • Vitamin D: Eat fish, meat, eggs, dairy, and mushrooms
  • Magnesium: Eat Beans and fish
  • Vitamin B12: Eat Meat, poultry, eggs, fish, and dairy
  • Potassium: Eat avocados, potatoes, and bananas
  • Iodine: Eat eggs, milk, and yogurt

As you grow, your needs will change. Strive to eat a balanced diet, if you have any concerns or are feeling sluggish even while trying to live a healthy life it would be wise to seek advice from a dietitian or doctor.

Not only do men need to eat nutritiously, but they also need exercise. Exercising regularly for at least 30 minutes and including strength training will bring great health benefits to your life. Men who exercise have lower cholesterol, lower chance of diabetes, reduced inflammation, weight loss (no more “dad bod”), stronger bones, and more!

Some easy ways to work towards becoming a healthier man include:

  • Eat a balanced breakfast every day
  • Don’t overeat
  • Drink water over other beverages
  • Eat fruits and vegetables as snacks
  • Move every day (workout, go for a walk, chase your kids, do yard work)
  • Work with friends to set goals and stay healthy

Work towards becoming the best possible man you can. Take time to become healthier and you will have a more enjoyable life and more time to spend with those you love.
