Is Breakfast Really the Most Important Meal of the Day?

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You’ve heard your mom say it as you leave in the morning. Your school teachers remind you of it the day before a test. Your health junkie friend is constantly nagging you to put down the breakfast pastry. But is breakfast really the most important meal of the day?

To put it simply…YES.

Eating breakfast is an important way to start your day off right. Fueling your body with a combination of carbohydrates, proteins, healthy fats, and fibers will give you immediate and lasting energy. This energy will help you to better focus throughout the day and can actually increase your memory.

You might think that eating breakfast is just a waste of calories, and time if you are running late. However, eating breakfast gets your metabolism working which means you actually end up burning more calories throughout the day. Skipping breakfast can do more harm than good when it comes to weight loss and overall health. When you skip breakfast your body clings onto the calories that you eat later on rather than burning them.

Each day, your body needs to intake vitamins, minerals, and fiber. If you eat breakfast, you will be able to get a head start on consuming these nutrients and ensuring your body is getting what it needs. If you skip breakfast, you aren’t as likely to get the daily recommended servings of these essential nutrients.

Kids and teenagers need breakfast in order to help give their growing bodies the proper nutrition and fuel. Eating breakfast will help them to focus easier, not get tired as fast, and be happier. If kids and teenagers eat breakfast they will be more likely to do better in school as well as avoid obesity.

Breakfast can be prepared in the morning or the night before if you are lacking on time. Some great breakfast ideas are:

  • Granola
  • Egg Sandwiches
  • Protein Peanut Butter Bites
  • Eggs
  • Whole Grain Toast
  • Whole Grain Cereal
  • Smoothie
  • Fruit

Make time for breakfast every day and your health will benefit from it. You will love the added energy and focus that come from eating the most important meal of the day.
