You Are What You Think

Everyone wants to be a better version of themselves. We all want to be happier, more motivated, in better shape, kinder, and more! So will positive affirmations help you to reach this better version of yourself?

Positive affirmations are uplifting statements that push out negative thoughts or feelings. If you dwell on negative thoughts, it is easy to put yourself in a bad mood and begin to feel like you are in a bad rut. On the other hand, if you consistently bring in positive thoughts, you will feel a boost of motivation and belief.

So how can you create a positive affirmation that is just for you? Follow these steps!

1. Find a negative thought. Try to think of a negative thought or feeling that seems to haunt you. For some people, these are things like:

  • “I am so dumb, I will never be smart enough”
  • “I am ugly (annoying, fat, etc)”
  • “I will never become that successful and/or rich”
  • Etc.

2. Find a positive thought. Take the negative thought and reverse it into a positive and uplifting version. For example:

  • “I am smart and I can do hard things”
  • I am beautiful (loved, healthy, etc)”
  • “I am doing my best and I am succeeding”
  • etc.

3. State the positive. Find time each day to talk with yourself in the mirror as you state the positive affirmation. As you recite it frequently, it will become part of your routine and you will start to believe what you should be thinking.

4. Visualize it. Write your affirmation on your hand each day or on a note at your desk. Then glance at it from time to time, recite it in your head, and smile!

Positive affirmations have the power to change your attitude and your bad opinions about yourself. They can be motivating and energizing when recited frequently in a serious way. Mindfulness is a great way to push away negativity and start focusing on the good in your life. If you have a hard time sticking to daily affirmations, invite a friend or family member to do it with you and hold each other accountable. Try it today!

I am awesome! I am strong! I am kind! I am loved! I am smart! I am financially stable! I am healthy! I am courageous! I am worthy! I am trusted! I am at peace! I am enough!
