Healthy Hair Help

Whether you are male or female, everyone wants to have healthy hair with limited hair loss, luxurious shine, and a soft feel. Achieving this dream hair often seems difficult.

In order to reach your goal of healthy hair, you need to understand the parts of your hair and the cycle that each strand goes through.

Your hair is made up of a hair follicle, hair bulb, and hair shaft. Your hair strand itself is made of a protein known as keratin. While the structure of the hair seems simple, there are a lot of different aspects that go into growing it.

There are 3 stages in the cycle of growing your hair:

  1. Anagen Phase
  2. Catagen Phase
  3. Telogen Phase

The anagen phase is when your hair is actively growing. The endurance and rate of your growth can vary depending on things like genetics, age, ethnicity, health factors, time of year, and diet. This stage can last between about 2-7 years.

The catagen phase is when your hair transitions and the growth slows down. This stage is short and only lasts for a few weeks. At this point, your hair is not growing but it has not fallen out yet.

The Telogen phase is when your hair is in a resting phase. This takes place until a new anagen hair pushes its way out of the hair follicle.

So is there anything you can do to try and help your hair stay healthy while it’s growing? Let’s talk!

Don’t be afraid to get a haircut. You want your hair to grow but if the ends are dry, brittle, or split, they are just going to keep breaking off. This will make you think your hair isn’t growing even if it is. Getting regular trims when you notice that your hair is breaking off will help you be able to better maintain healthy hair and get the length you desire.

Put down the shampoo. Having clean hair might be nice but it could definitely be drying your hair out. Washing your hair strips the natural oils from your hair leaving it dry and brittle. Going longer between washes (still showering of course) can help you achieve healthier, smoother hair.

Be gentle. Your hair is fragile, even when it seems healthy! Make sure you are not roughly towel drying your hair as this can cause friction which leads to splitting and breaking. You should also carefully brush your hair with a detangling brush. Start from the ends of your hair and work your way up to ensure that you are gently removing any tangles.

Eat a variety of nutrients. What you put in your body can help determine how your hair grows. Eating a diet full of nutrients and including things like protein, iron, vitamin C, and phytonutrients will help your hair. What you eat truly can impact the health and growth of your hair.

There are several ways that you can work towards healthy hair that grows long and strong. Hair growth is unique to every individual but by following these tips, you can achieve stronger locks!
