Skin Sins

Your skin covers your entire body and has several purposes. Did you know that the food you consume has an impact on the health of your skin? Certain foods can cause skin conditions like acne, rashes, dry patches, and more!

We are here to tell you what to eat and what to avoid to have beautiful, healthy, youthful, glowy, skin!

Do eat healthy fats. Foods that contain healthy fats like salmon and avocados are great for your skin! These foods contain healthy fats and other things like omega-3 fatty acids, protein, vitamin E, vitamin C, and zinc. According to Telegraph, these things can help reduce inflammation and bring moisture to your skin.

Avoid Sugar. In a previous article, we discussed how consuming sugar can cause acne and also damage the collagen and elastin in your skin which causes your skin to age faster.

Do drink water. We all know that it is good to stay hydrated by drinking water but did you know this can also help your skin? WebMD states, “[Water] keeps your skin moist — and that makes fine lines and wrinkles less noticeable. It also helps your cells take in nutrients and get rid of toxins.” Water is beneficial to all the organs in your body, including your skin. It will also help you better absorb all of the other vitamins, minerals, and nutrients we recommend you take!

Avoid dairy, if you are prone to acne. Dairy is a big cause of inflammation in your body. If you are prone to inflamed acne or have a dairy intolerance, you should avoid dairy. Besides causing inflammation, O Naturals also states, “Another key issue with dairy is that it is full of hormones, both male and female. These hormones may interfere with your body’s natural hormonal balance.” Dairy can cause a combination of inflammation and a hormonal balance which can cause your body to produce more oil. From here your pores are more likely to become blocked and breakout.

Do eat fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are full of phytonutrients and lots of other great stuff that can help your skin and your health. BBC Good Food explains, “Fruit and vegetables contain powerful antioxidants that help to protect skin from the cellular damage caused by free radicals.” Eating a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables each day can help promote healthy skin cell turnover and development and even out your skin tone.

Avoid greasy food. While greasy, deep-fried foods might taste good, they aren’t much help for your skin. Insider agrees, “No one wants the oil from their food showing up on their face.” No one wants a greasy face that leads to acne. So avoid greasy foods and help keep your skin clear and balanced.

While you don’t have control over all the factors that can impact your skin, you do have control over what you put in your body. Start eating a healthy diet with a variety of nutrients and you will notice health benefits and skin improvements.
